LAGOS: A dispatch rider was crushed to death by a moving train on Thursday morning at the PWD Railway Level Crossing in Ikeja, Lagos State, sparking panic among road users and residents.

Eyewitnesses said the rider attempted to cross the tracks despite warnings of an approaching train. The impact was fatal, leaving the scene in chaos before emergency responders arrived.

Officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other agencies swiftly moved in to clear the wreckage, control traffic, and remove the victim’s remains.

In a statement following the incident, LASTMA urged motorists, motorcyclists, and pedestrians to obey traffic signals and barriers at railway crossings, stressing that reckless disregard for such safety rules poses serious risks to life and property.

The agency reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict compliance with safety measures around railway lines and major intersections across Lagos.

Authorities also appealed to residents to prioritize caution and patience to prevent similar avoidable tragedies.
