Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a citizen-centered system of governance, stressing that the vision of a prosperous Delta State can only be achieved through a shared responsibility between government and the people.
The Governor made this known on Tuesday in Asaba during the Oshimili South Local Government Area Empowerment Programme.
He noted that sustainable development thrives best in an atmosphere of peace, unity and cooperation.
Speaking through his Deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, Ph.D., Governor Oborevwori said, “We are building a Delta where government truly works for the people, but we also need the people to work with us by maintaining peace and protecting public assets.”
He commended the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. (Dr.) Kelvin Ezenyili, for his foresight, consistency and alignment with the state government’s MORE Agenda, describing the empowerment programme as a practical step toward deepening grassroots development.
According to the Governor, the initiative reflects the dividends of democracy being taken directly to the people at the community level.
“As we approach the end of the year, there is no better way to embrace the spirit of the season than by lifting our people and providing them with the tools to build a sustainable future,” he said.
He added that the empowerment exercise was a direct extension of the MORE Agenda, emphasizing that empowerment goes beyond the distribution of items or funds.
“Empowerment is about economic resilience, poverty alleviation and human capital development.
To the beneficiaries, see this support as a seed. In a challenging economic climate, the discipline to manage small beginnings often makes the difference between success and failure,” the Governor advised.
Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. (Dr.) Kelvin Ezenyili, reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and the promotion of small-scale businesses within the local government area.
He explained that the programme was deliberately designed to support small business owners, particularly during the festive season, noting that many entrepreneurs require as little as ₦50,000 to acquire tools or ₦100,000 to restock their shops and sustain their livelihoods.
The empowerment programme, he said, underscores the council’s resolve to improve economic opportunities at the grassroots while complementing the state government’s development agenda.
