The highest-ranking Okpalabisi and Ogbeleani of Issele-Uku, Diokpa Okonkwo Isimchei, has called for stronger unity among custodians of Issele-Uku culture to ensure the continued preservation of the kingdom’s traditional and cultural heritage.
Diokpa Isimchei made the call on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, while celebrating his New Yam Festival (Iwaji Ikpala), also known as Igbu Awai.
He offered prayers for the land of Issele-Uku and its custodian, Agbogidi Obi Nduka, affirming that God and the ancestors had indeed favoured Issele-Uku with a king who is passionate about cultural preservation, peace, and the unity of the people.
Diokpa Isimchei meticulously observed all the traditional rites required of him as Okpala Issei on the occasion of his Iwaji. He commenced the ceremony with the Otite before proceeding to the Awai, after which food was served.
Our crew also visited the residences of the Iyase of Issele-Uku, Eze Dibie of Issele-Uku, the Akogwu of Issele-Uku, and other prominent custodians who celebrated the Iwaji Ikpala in their capacity as Okpala Issei.
