Gbemre disclosed this in a statement issued on December 26, noting that he personally observed the renewed level of activity at the airstrip on December 23, 2025, while boarding a flight out of Delta State.
According to him, although his flight and those of other passengers experienced delays, none was cancelled, a situation he said marked a sharp departure from past experiences when frequent cancellations were common.
He stated that within the period he waited, about 25 flights landed and took off at the Osubi Airstrip, reflecting a significant improvement in operational efficiency.
Gbemre attributed the renewed vibrancy of the airstrip to the combined efforts of Minister Keyamo and Governor Oborevwori, applauding both leaders for restoring confidence in the facility.
He further revealed that an insider source informed him that as of December 23, 2025, more than 10 airlines were operating flights to and from Osubi, a development he described as unprecedented in recent years.
However, he cautioned that the current gains could be short-lived if critical infrastructure challenges are not urgently addressed.
Gbemre stressed the need for the immediate expansion and upgrading of the runway to ensure the sustainability of operations beyond the tenures of the current minister and governor.
“To sustain the activities at Osubi Airstrip and prevent a relapse to its former state, the runway must be expanded and upgraded now,” he said.
While commending the present administration for reviving the airstrip, Gbemre emphasized that constructive criticism and timely intervention remain necessary to secure its long-term viability.
He concluded by reiterating his appreciation to Governor Oborevwori and Minister Keyamo for making Osubi Airstrip active again, urging relevant authorities to prioritize runway expansion as a matter of urgency.
