Anambra Police Deploy Helicopters, Drones for Election Security

The Anambra State Police Command has intensified security operations ahead of the November Governorship Election with the arrival of Advance Tactical Teams from the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

The deployment, approved by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, includes additional personnel, helicopters, and surveillance drones to boost security presence and enhance real-time monitoring across the State.

Speaking in Awka on Sunday, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, said the aerial surveillance will support ongoing land patrols by tactical units, intelligence operatives, and special squads positioned in all 21 Local Government Areas.

He noted that the joint operations will improve visibility policing, intelligence-driven response, and rapid intervention against emerging threats. The CP further stressed that helicopters and drones will monitor critical locations, border communities, and identified flashpoints, while ground teams maintain patrols and checkpoints.

Orutugu also reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to collaborate with sister security agencies to ensure peace and order before, during, and after the election. He urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, and to report suspicious movements via emergency hotlines: 07039194332 and 08039334002.

The Police assured citizens of their commitment to creating a safe environment where residents can go about their lawful activities without fear.
