Frontline aspirant and prominent Obidient movement supporter, Rex Biose, has emerged as the Labour Party's candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Biose secured the party's ticket during a well-attended senatorial primary congress held in Asaba, where delegates and party members drawn from the nine local government areas that make up Delta North (Anioma) overwhelmingly endorsed him through a voice affirmation.
Addressing party faithful shortly after his emergence, Biose expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to champion a people-centred agenda focused on development, accountability, and inclusive representation.
According to him, governance must move away from the old order and embrace a new approach that places the welfare and aspirations of the people above personal interests.
"It is no longer business as usual. It must be business unusual if the Anioma people are to be liberated from the shackles of political servitude to a privileged few," he said.
Biose emphasized that, if elected, the interests of the people of Delta North would remain his foremost priority.
"My people come first. We must prioritize our concerns, address our needs, and focus on the issues that affect our development and collective progress.
"In the coming weeks, I will unveil my manifesto. I have already developed a comprehensive blueprint that will guide our actions from the moment we are inaugurated after victory at the polls. The era of passive representation and self-serving politics at the expense of the grassroots must come to an end.
"Our focus will be on delivering tangible dividends of democracy through infrastructural development, strategic projects, and human capital empowerment. We will move away from governance that benefits only a select few and embrace an inclusive model of representation that serves all segments of our society.
"The people of Anioma must feel the impact of governance at the federal, state, and local government levels. We will engage and hold accountable every stakeholder whose role is critical to advancing our collective destiny and ensuring sustainable development for our people."
The primary election was conducted by the Labour Party National Treasurer, Mr. Hamisu Santuraki who also acted as Returning Officer for all the contested positions in the party. Through a voice affirmation, the party's presidential candidate, Mr. Okereke Chibuzor Ph.D was returned.
Also returned were the Governorship candidate, Ms. Esther James, Delta Central Senatorial Candidate, Mr. Oshiokhue Enanekhe Christopher, Delta South Senatorial Candidate, Mr. Ferdinand Efejemu, Delta North Senatorial Candidate, Mr. Rex Chinye Biose, including House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates respectively.
The primary election was equally monitored by Representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the persons of Mr. Harrison Toria and Mrs. Adaobi Ndubuisi, including the representative of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Fidel Emeni.
Political observers note that Biose's emergence sets the stage for what is expected to be a highly competitive contest for the Delta North Senatorial seat. He is expected to face notable contenders, including former Delta State Governor cum former Senator, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa of the APC, and former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei of the NDC.
With the race gradually taking shape, voters across Delta North will ultimately decide between established political figures with extensive unaccountable records in public office and a candidate whose supporters point to his longstanding service to humanity and grassroots engagement outside government as evidence of a fresh alternative.
As the campaign season unfolds, the contest is expected to generate significant interest across the Anioma nation, with issues of development, representation, and accountable leadership likely to dominate public discourse.
