The Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), under the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has overwhelmingly passed a vote of confidence in the executive led by Comrade Kenneth Orusi and inaugurated a three-member electoral committee to oversee its 2026 elections.
The resolutions were reached during the Chapel’s February Congress held on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Secretariat in Asaba, where members reaffirmed their support for the current leadership and outlined steps toward a credible and transparent electoral process.
At the well-attended Congress, the Chairman formally announced the constitution of the Credentials Committee to conduct the 2026 ICC election.
Elder Ben Ogbogo, a respected journalist and Life Elder of the Chapel, was named Chairman of the committee, with Comrade Austin Oyibode serving as Secretary and Comrade Onos Agbamu as Member.
The motion to empower the committee to pilot the electoral affairs of the Chapel was initially moved by Comrade Godwin Udoh. However, Elder Chukwudi Abiandu advised that Congress should first ratify the committee’s composition before proceeding.
Acting on the advice, Comrade Udoh moved a fresh motion for the formal confirmation of the three-member committee. The motion, seconded by Comrade Dorathy Mbasen Uba, was unanimously adopted without dissent.
While moving the motion, Udoh commended the Chairman’s stewardship, describing his leadership as exceptional despite prevailing challenges. He characterized Comrade Orusi as “a Chairman with a lion’s heart,” noting that his legacy of service and measurable achievements were evident to members.
He also applauded the entire executive for what he described as a remarkable performance that has steadily repositioned the Chapel for greater relevance, unity, and institutional impact. The motion received resounding approval, reflecting the broad-based confidence in the leadership.
Following the confirmation, Chairman Orusi administered the oath of office to the committee members and charged them to discharge their responsibilities with fairness, transparency, and open-mindedness to ensure a credible electoral outcome.
Responding to the vote of confidence, Orusi expressed appreciation to members for their trust and solidarity, attributing the administration’s successes to teamwork and collective sacrifice.
He acknowledged the contributions of Elder Spence Idighri, the Chapel’s Life Chairman, and Comrade (Dcn) Patrick Ochei, the Life Leader, describing their support as instrumental to the milestones recorded under his tenure.
In his acceptance remarks, Elder Ogbogo, speaking on behalf of the committee, pledged diligence, neutrality, and integrity in carrying out their mandate, assuring members of a free, fair, and credible electoral process.
The Congress concluded on a hopeful note, with members expressing optimism that the newly inaugurated electoral committee would lay a solid foundation for a transparent 2026 election and further strengthen democratic culture within the Chapel.
