•••highlights the efficacy of joining the progressives

Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on Tuesday presented a proposed N1.664 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year to the State House of Assembly, prioritising aggressive infrastructural development and ongoing transformative projects across the state.

Tagged “Budget of Accelerating the More Agenda,” the proposal places a strong emphasis on capital investment, with 70% of the total appropriation dedicated to capital projects, while the remaining 30% is earmarked for recurrent expenditure.

The budget reflects his administration’s commitment to completing major road networks, strengthening public infrastructure, expanding social services, and accelerating economic expansion through targeted investments.

He noted that the heavy capital allocation is designed to sustain the momentum of the MORE Agenda, ensuring that ongoing projects are fast-tracked while new developmental initiatives are rolled out across all senatorial districts.

The governor urged lawmakers to give the bill timely consideration, assuring that the budget is realistic and aligned with revenue projections for 2026.

The presentation marks one of the largest budget proposals in the state’s history and signals the administration’s continued focus on infrastructure-led growth.

Governor Oborevwori also hinted that "we are very happy with the budget we have presented, a budget of accelerating the MORE AGENDA and are going to manage our resources, because we are being prudent and we you are being prudent and pay as when due, contractors will not delay projects and we are also doing our best to ensure that between now and next year, we will not borrow."

Speaking on allocating 450bn the larger chunk of the budget to ministry of works, he stated that Delta State unlike other states is dynamic in nature and has multiple cities unlike others limited to about two cities and Delta as a state with over 10 cities needs more roads, more flyovers because "Delta State is the only state in Nigeria that has more than 10 cities so if you don't alocate that much it would be difficult to achieve those projects" he also added that the Ughelli dualization road is the longest in the entire south-south with a stretch of 140plus km and would be commissioned shortly.

On budget performance and joining the Progressives Gov Oborewvori reiterated that in 2023 his administration performed and even better in the following years and now in 2025 " we also performed and in 2026 we will perform much more because we are already connected to the center, so you can see the center is working the state is also working."
