Anambra Governorship: CP Orutugu Engages Stakeholders For Peace

The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, fwc, minps, PhD, has continued his election peace-building advocacy tour ahead of the November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State.

On Saturday, 25th October 2025, the Commissioner visited the Ogidi Area Command, where he paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe Uzo Alexander Onyido (Ezechuamagha of Ogidi Kingdom).

During the palace engagement, CP Orutugu emphasized the vital role of traditional institutions in promoting peace, moral leadership, and community stability. He noted that traditional rulers remain critical partners in preventing violence, discouraging youth involvement in political thuggery, and fostering harmony during election periods.

The Commissioner appealed to the Palace and community leaders to continue mobilizing residents toward peaceful participation, while urging them to promptly report suspicious activities that could undermine security before, during, and after the polls.

In his remarks, His Royal Majesty, Igwe Onyido, commended the Police Commissioner for his proactive engagements and assured him of the Palace’s full cooperation in promoting peace and community awareness. The traditional ruler also called on youths, political actors, and stakeholders in Ogidi and its environs to avoid actions capable of disturbing the peace of the community.

After a closed-door meeting with Divisional Police Officers in the area, CP Orutugu addressed officers and men of the Ogidi Area Command Headquarters, where he reaffirmed that the Nigeria Police Force remains professional and non-partisan. He stressed that the duty of the Police is to secure the electoral space and safeguard the rights of all citizens, not to influence electoral outcomes.

He added that all security agencies in the State are working collaboratively to ensure a peaceful pre-election atmosphere, a safe voting environment, and a stable post-election period.

During an interactive session with security stakeholders at the Area Command — including the Chairman of Idemili North Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Stanley Nkwoka; Vigilante operatives; members of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC); Presidents-General of communities; and other local leaders — participants commended the Command’s sustained outreach and pledged their support for a peaceful and credible election.

They also assured the Command of enhanced intelligence sharing and improved community-based security coordination as the election approaches.

In conclusion, CP Orutugu reassured the people of Anambra that adequate deployments, surveillance operations, and rapid response measures are already in place across all Local Government Areas. He urged residents to remain law-abiding, avoid violence, and continue supporting security agencies in safeguarding peace across the state.
