The revered and dynamic monarch of Issele-Uku, His Royal Majesty Agbogidi Obi Nduka, JP (MNSE), has celebrated the Izu Afiachi Festival in grand style.
The Obi, who made his first public appearance today, Friday, August 14, 2026, to commence his 2026 Ine Aho Festival with the 10th Izu Afiachi, visited Afor Market amid a mammoth crowd. He shopped at the market, exchanged pleasantries with members of the Omu cult, and dashed money to the cheering crowd of market women, men, and children who were delighted by his presence.
Obi Nduka eventually returned to the palace amidst cheers and ovation from those waiting to receive him.
Upon taking his seat, he prayed for the kingdom and declared blessings upon the land as the Ine Aho Festival commenced on a fruitful note.
The items purchased from the market were subsequently displayed on the palace grounds for interested persons to pick from the lot and rejoice with the king over the gifts.
Obi Issele-Uku is the only known king of Anioma extraction in Delta State who goes to the market to shop without bargaining or having prior knowledge of the prices of items. He simply makes his choices and willingly pays the sellers whatever amount he deems appropriate.
Agbogidi Obi Nduka made his debut Izu Afiachi appearance in 2017, following his coronation in December 2016. His first day at the market was an emotional experience, but today, he has become much more accustomed to and prepared for the cultural demands of the festival.
At today's Izu Afiachi, he was seen gracefully smiling, dancing, and joyfully dashing money to the enthusiastic crowd, who danced along in appreciation of his royal presence.
