Obi Martha Dunkwu Foundation Celebrates Women, Calls for Action on Gender Equality

The Obi Martha Dunkwu Foundation has joined the global community in celebrating the 2026 International Women’s Day, urging governments, institutions, and community leaders to move beyond rhetoric and take concrete steps toward protecting the rights of women and girls.

In a press statement issued on Saturday, March 8, 2026, the Foundation aligned with this year’s International Women’s Day theme, “Rights. Justice. Action. For All Women and Girls,” describing it as a powerful reminder that the quest for gender equality must translate into meaningful and measurable actions.

The Foundation noted that while women and girls across the world continue to show remarkable resilience, leadership, and innovation, many still face significant barriers, including inequality, limited access to education and economic opportunities, gender-based violence, and systemic injustices that restrict their full participation in society.

According to the statement, the Obi Martha Dunkwu Foundation remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting initiatives that empower women and girls through education, advocacy, mentorship, and community development.

The Foundation emphasized that empowering women has a ripple effect on society, stressing that when women are supported, families become stronger, communities grow more prosperous, and nations move closer to achieving sustainable development.

It further called on governments, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to intensify efforts toward safeguarding the rights of women and girls while promoting justice and equal opportunities for all.

The Foundation also urged collective action to build a society where every woman and girl can live with dignity, pursue her aspirations freely, and contribute meaningfully to national development.

While celebrating the strength, courage, and achievements of women around the world, the Obi Martha Dunkwu Foundation reaffirmed its commitment to championing the rights and advancement of women and girls at all times.

The statement was signed by Dr. Afamefuna Dunkwu-Okafor, Acting Chairman of the Obi Martha Dunkwu Foundation, and Comrade Patrick Ochei, Secretary of the Foundation.
