The Member representing Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Ngozi Okolie, has continued to strengthen his profile as a lawmaker driven by people-focused legislation, strategic empowerment programmes and impactful constituency projects, records from his tenure have shown.
Since assuming office, the federal lawmaker has combined national legislative advocacy with grassroots interventions aimed at improving livelihoods, expanding access to education and strengthening critical infrastructure across Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Oshimili North and Oshimili South Local Government Areas.
Strong Legislative Interventions
At the National Assembly, Okolie has been at the forefront of legislative efforts addressing economic justice, education, infrastructure and accountability.
He successfully moved a motion of urgent public importance mandating the House to protect Nigerians who have taken loans from commercial banks, particularly against arbitrary increases in interest rates and service charges on existing loans during periods of inflation or fiscal policy adjustments.
In the education sector, the lawmaker sponsored the legislative process to upgrade the Federal College of Education (Technical), Asaba, into a full-fledged Federal University, a move expected to expand academic opportunities and reposition Asaba as a major educational hub.
Similarly, he sponsored the pivotal bill seeking to upgrade the Onicha-Olona Model School (formerly the Teacher Training College) into a Federal College of Education. The bill has successfully passed its First and Second Readings, marking a significant milestone for the host community.
Okolie also championed advocacy for the revitalisation of the Ogwashi-Uku Water Project, pushing for sustainable access to clean water for residents. In addition, he proposed a motion urging the Federal Government to facilitate the establishment of a Toyota Assembly Plant in Nigeria, an initiative aimed at job creation and reducing vehicle costs.
On political representation, he formally moved for the creation of additional political wards, particularly Aniocha North 2, to promote fairer representation and bring governance closer to the people.
He is also leading a national legislative push for justice for the Omhonrina brothers, following the killing of Ivan Omhonrina and his brother by operatives of the NDLEA.
In the area of infrastructure, his motions have yielded tangible outcomes, including the completed rehabilitation of the Illah–Ebu Road and the ongoing total reconstruction of the Asaba–Benin Expressway, which remains under construction as of December 2025.
Empowerment and Human Capital Development
Beyond legislation, Okolie’s constituency empowerment programmes have reached hundreds of beneficiaries.
Through a partnership with the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), over 200 constituents were trained and empowered in skills acquisition programmes held at the Federal Secretariat. Complementing this effort, more than 300 constituents received direct business grants to support small-scale enterprises, with the empowerment exercise held at the Labour House in Asaba.
Farmers across the constituency also benefited from the distribution of fertilisers, aimed at improving crop yields and strengthening food security.
In education and youth development, the lawmaker provided direct academic assistance to over 300 students across the four local government areas. He further eased the burden on parents by distributing more than 30,000 exercise notebooks to primary and secondary school students.
School infrastructure has also received attention, with the distribution of desks and chairs to selected schools in Oshimili North and Oshimili South, alongside ongoing renovation of primary and secondary schools across the constituency.
Notably, projects at Aboh-Ogwashi have been completed, including the facilitation of a WAEC centre and the donation of laboratory materials.
Infrastructure and Community Development
In the area of physical infrastructure, new road constructions in the Asaba region have been completed, while the installation of solar street lights is ongoing across all four local government areas to enhance security and support nighttime economic activities.
Community development projects include the completion and handover of a 500-capacity Civic Centre in Okpanam, the ongoing construction of a 1,000-capacity pavilion at the permanent site of the Palace of the Asagba of Asaba, and the successful facilitation of the Akwukwu-Igbo Civic Centre into the federal budget at the planning stage.
Welfare and Social Support
On welfare and healthcare, Okolie has provided direct support to old people’s homes, personally settled hospital bills for indigent constituents and facilitated medical outreaches focused on health awareness and policy education.
He has also sustained the tradition of annual festive welfare distributions, providing rice and food items to constituents during Christmas and Salah celebrations.
