Rivers State Cancels ₦134bn Secretariat Contract, Demands 20bn Refund

Rivers State Executive Council has cancelled the ₦134 billion contract for the reconstruction of the State Secretariat earlier awarded to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) during the period of emergency rule.

The Council, in its resolution, directed the company to refund the ₦20 billion mobilization fee already paid to it.

Also, the Council approved the constitution of a six-man committee chaired by the Deputy Governor, Prof. Ngozi Odu, to evaluate and recommend locations for the construction of Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the state. The centres are expected to facilitate the conduct of external examinations for students.

In addition, the flood control committee, also headed by the Deputy Governor, was directed to take immediate steps to address flooding in parts of the state.

The Council cautioned residents against blocking drainage channels, emphasizing that such practices worsen the impact of floods during the rainy season.
