Top Pro Golfers Set for Delta Governor’s Cup Showdown in Asaba

Top professional golfers from across Nigeria and neighboring countries are set to storm the Ibori Golf and Country Club (IGCC), Asaba, for the maiden edition of the Governor’s Cup Invitational Golf Tournament.
 
The event is being specially organized to commemorate the 62nd birthday of the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who turned 62 on June 19.
 
In a statement, the Club Captain, Chief Patrick Ukah, announced that the prestigious week-long tournament will run from Monday, June 23 to Saturday, June 28, at the lush greens of the Ibori Golf and Country Club.
 
Ukah, who also serves as the Director-General of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency, said Governor Oborevwori will perform the ceremonial tee-off on Saturday, June 23, at 8:00 AM, beginning with the Caddy Tournament.
 
"This will be followed by the two-day Pros Event on Wednesday, June 25, and Thursday, June 26, both starting at 7:00 AM. These sessions will feature some of Nigeria’s finest professional golfers competing for a total prize purse of N3 million," he added.
 
On Friday, June 27, qualifying rounds for club members and specially invited guests will commence at 7:00 AM.
 
The grand finale takes place on Saturday, June 28, featuring 80 finalists and VIP players competing for top honors, with tee-off scheduled for 8:00 AM. The tournament will conclude with a glamorous dinner and prize presentation ceremony at 6:00 PM, during which Governor Oborevwori will also be decorated as the Grand Patron of the Ibori Golf and Country Club.
 
Chief Ukah emphasized that the Governor’s Cup is more than just a birthday celebration. 

The competition, already generating significant interest both locally and internationally, will feature top stars including Victor Enaigbe, a past champion of the African Open; Tony Uduimoh, a multiple-time champion including at the former Bendel Open; and Mike Ubi, who has won the Air Assault Open in Port Harcourt four times and the Ojerinde Memorial in Otukpo in 2010, among several other titles.
 
Other notable participants include Festus Michele, Monday Ugiagbe, Lucky Idehen, Donatus Isuku, Francis Isuku, Johnbull Dangofa, Emeka Obi, Sam Agbeyegbe, Stanley Omenuko, Magnus Onumajuru, Peter Adikpe, Mustafa Abubakar, Osas Enaigbe, Collins Odile, John Oche, Solomon Okoromi, and Samson Okorhi.
 
Also expected at this maiden edition are Austin Akpodiete, Friday Akpodiete, Abuchi Cletus, Isife C., Chukwudi Okoro, Kanayo Chukwu, Uche Nkwor, Ugochukwu Kingsley, Valentine Mantheur, and Ibrahim Ochege.
 
The maiden edition of the Governor’s Cup is powered by Peculiar Consults, Providus Bank, Levante Construction, Welltime Ltd, DD Ventures, Chief Brodericks Arigbodi among other individuals
 
Chief Ukah noted that the event follows closely on the heels of the recently concluded IGCC "Captain’s Day Tournament" and the celebration of Governor Oborevwori’s two years in office.
 
According to him, "These events reflect the club’s broader vision of using golf as a platform to boost tourism, stimulate economic activity, and attract investment to Delta State and its capital, Asaba."
 
He also expressed gratitude to the various corporate sponsors, golfing partners, and friends of the Ibori Golf and Country Club for their generous support in making the tournament a reality.
