Failed Promises: Asaba Communities Berate Delta Govt Over Abandonment

Satellite Communities of Asaba formerly called Bonsaac now Ajaji Layout and Oduke has berated past and present administrations over abandonment in time past.

These communities laid bare their helpless state to the Asagba of Asaba,  HRM Asagba Prof Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge SAN during his madien visit to these satellite towns on January 30th, 2025.

According to the joint address read by Dr Chukwuemeka Oforgu presented to Nna Agu, the communities hinted that amidst this marginalization the communities has a population of over One hundred thousand inhabitants and growing.

Despite their ever increasing population, the community continued to lack basic socio-economic infrastructures and amenities to support their existence as part of the Delta State Capital territory.

Amongst the things that mirrored lack of government presence in the areas were deplorable and inaccessible road networks in the communities at all seasons of the year, absence of government health institutions (Primary health care center, Maternity, Dispensary, Public Primary and Secondary Schools, absence of a standard commodity market.

To further heighten the evident neglect they also highlighted that there were no Police Posts/Station to attend to crime and related offences neither did they have any Judicial Institutions within the communities for quick justification of justice.

Recall that in the first tenure of Gov Okowa, when these communities cried out, the government promised to do something about it and at least give them a school in that region as children had to cross the express daily to access education but didn't see the light of day as the government banked on lack of sizeable land at the time.

Much later it became a matter of discuss to erect a pedestrian crossing to at least help the school children and other occupants cross the express safely at the Bonsaac now Ajaji Layout Junction but the now abandoned Abraka market was perceived to be more important at that time.

HRM Asagba Azinge appreciated the communities for their warm reception and thanked all those who came out in numbers to receive him and his entourage. He stated that both communities are an integral part of Asaba and that's why he appointed Ogbueshi Adim Onochie and Ogbueshi Dada Okolo to become Anya Asagaba in both communities and urged residents to respect and obey them and the traditions of Ahaba knowing fully well that the land have blessed them so much.

Asagba Azinge addressed the communities' concerns about governmental developments, assuring them that Chief Patrick Ukah's presence during his visit indicates the state government's awareness of their needs.

He cautioned that some structures may need to be demolished to pave the way for development projects, urging residents to support the government and Asaba Kingdom in attracting positive change.

HRM Asagba Azinge renamed the Bonsaac Community to Ajaji Layout, Asaba, citing his authority as the prescribed authority and Asagba of Asaba. He instructed Ogbueshi Dada Okolo and Ogbueshi Adim Onochie to display "THIS IS AJAJI LAYOUT" notices at all community entrances within the next one week.

To address security concerns, Asagba Azinge pledged to contact the Commissioner of Police to establish a police post in the community. He also suggested collaboration between the Anya Asagba in Ajaji Layout and Ogbueshi Nnamdi Chukwuedo, Asaba Vigilante Chairman, to enhance security measures.
