MORE Agenda : PDP Chairman Sends Subtle Reminder to Gov Oborewvori

The Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP), Oshimili south local government area of Delta State has indirectly reminded the State governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, of the eight-year social contract he entered into with the people. 

As his administration approaches the halfway mark of its first term, Oshimili south PDP Chairman, Ogbueshi Chike Ifesiokwu, has urged him to remain steadfast in delivering on the promises outlined in the undisclosed pact. 

The contract, which may be a cornerstone of his election, may contain inclusive governance, infrastructure development, youth empowerment, and economic growth. 

The PDP official stressed that the governor's adherence to the unwritten agreement would not only secure his legacy but also reaffirm the party’s commitment to the welfare of the people.

Speaking on Monday December 23, 2024, during the commissioning of an Ultra-modern Oko Event Centre at Oko Amakom in Oshimili south built by Hon. Kelvin Obi Ezenyili Ph.D, the PDP stalwart reviewed the progress made so far, particularly in Warri axis of the State. 

He acknowledged key achievements, such as the construction of the new flyover but implied that such progress had been slower in Oshimili south.

The Party leader emphasized that the governor must intensify efforts to meet the people’s expectations, reminding him that the social contract was a mutual promise of accountability to them.

He however, commended the governor for being pragmatic and for showing capacity.

Hear him: "Her Excellency, on behalf of the Oshimili south people, I want to humbly ask you to take this message back to His Excellency, our pragmatic governor. Her Excellency, the governor of Delta State has shown capacity. 

"In my football playing days in Warri, Warri, used to be the busiest business hub in the whole of the south-south and south-east put together.

"But all of a sudden, Warri, became the ghost of its own but last week that I went to Warri, it shows that our governor is showing capacity. Our governor has shown that a new Warri, is possible.

"On behalf of my Oshimili south people, in my capacity as the chairman of PDP in Oshimili south Ma, I also want to ask you, to take to the governor that the Oshimili south people has an eight years social contract with Sheriff Oborevwori in compliance with the article of inclusivity of Sheriff Oborevwori.

"Until that eight years tenure expires, we have no business to  discuss governorship political ambition with any other person, there is no vacancy.

"Sheriff Oborevwori has come to stay. After eight years if you want to talk about governorship, then, we can listen to you".

He equally asked the governor's wife to appreciate him for accepting their nomination for chairmanship position of the council, which produced Ezenyili, as chairman of the Council which he said has yielded dividends of democracy.

"That nomination has yielded dividends. Very great dividends in terms of infrastructure and entrepreneurial skills.

"Today, about 500 persons will be empowered, he is going to put smiles in the face of 500 persons. Chief Ezenyili, we thank you as well.

"Her Excellency, the Oshimili south people, we are in support of the government of Sheriff Oborevwori, we will be with the government of Oborevwori, we will support him, we will give him all the support that he needs because the man is a pragmatic governor", he added.

Also speaking was Hon Bridget Anyafulu, member representing Oshimili South constituency at the Delta State House of Assembly DTHA who cited the lack of a secondary school in the community. 

She stressed that the lack of a secondary school in the community leaves children no choice but walk a couple miles out of the community to access education.

She appealed that alongside the road under construction that a secondary school be constructed in the community.
