The Ambassador Emmanuel Edojakwa Foundation-Safe Roads Initiative SRI, has on Saturday, December 28, 2024, took its road safety sensitization/awareness campaign in partnership with the Government College Ughelli Old Students Association Class of 1995 to Ughelli, headquarters of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State.
Speaking at the flagging of the event, SRC EM Traikiriowei, Unit Operation Head, Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC, Ughelli Command enlightened pedestrians and motorists on road safety tips and rules, also educate all on how to check the manufactured dates of tyres and other important safety rules. He disclosed that since December 15th, 2024, they have declared zero tolerance on road crashes. While commending the Ambassador Emmanuel Edojakwa Foundation, SRC Traikiriowei, noted that road safety or safety of persons is not the job of only one agency, maintaining that such foundation with the safety interest of the people in heart has just make their hob more easier.
Addressing journalists at the event, Dr. Victor Isodje, who represented Ambassador Emmanuel Edojakwa Foundation, disclosed that the awareness campaign and sensitization on road safety was been organised in partnership with the Government College Ughelli Old Students Association Class of 1995. He stated that though many people make use of the roads daily, but very few are aware of its safety rules hence there are accidents and crashes.
"Statistics of accidents and death in the Ember months are always high as a result of lack of awareness. So we are giving them enlightenments and giving out flyers with road and traffic signs as well as giving motorcyclists aprons.
"Our foundation is also out to support accident victims who may not be able to afford their medical bills, and so we are appealing to government bodies and well meaning individual to also partner with the Ambassador Emmanuel Edojakwa Foundation in order to give and do more for the society especially on the areas of safety".
Another representative of the Ambassador Emmanuel Edojakwa Foundation, Dr. Mrs. Uyoyoghene Isodje, noted, that the foundation aimed at sensitizing and creating awareness on the importance of road safety especially in the festive period for pedestrians and motorists.
"Our targets is to ensures that all road users like pedestrians, motorcyclists and tricyclists drivers are educated on safety rules especially at these festive period.
"Through such campaigns and awareness creation, we hope to inculcate the consciousness on every road users on how make the road safe for them and others.
" This days we often sees pedestrians crossing major roads without that safety consciousness because of a wrong notion that the rider or the driver is seeing them, so we have created that awareness in them that it is only them that is sane at that moment and if they can imbibed on all safety rules, crashes will be limited to the nearest minimum".
Dr. Mrs. Uyoyoghene Isodje further disclosed that the foundation is looking forward yo partner with government and organizations that can push policies will benefit and increase safety on our roads, adding that the Ambassador Emmanuel Edojakwa Foundation is also hoping to reach out to accident victims and how to support them in the future.
Highpoints of awareness/ sensitization and reunion programme of the Government College Ughelli Old Students Association Class of 1995 was the distribution of reflective jackets to motorcyclists and the unveiling of a signpost sponsored in partnership with the foundation at the popular Post Road Junction in Ughelli.
