The collaboration between the Oshimili South Local Government Council and the Delta State Police Command to tackle insecurity within the locality has begun to yield results, as operatives of the Command have commenced a clampdown on unauthorized motor parks and illegal cab operators.
The exercise has already resulted in the seizure of about 45 vehicles and the dismantling of nine illegal motor parks at strategic locations across the Asaba metropolis. The affected parks include one at the Pinnacle Hotel Junction along Okpanam Road, two in the Summit area, three in the Koka area, and three around the Bridge Head axis linking Asaba, Delta State, and Anambra State.
A source within the Delta State Police Command revealed that discreet investigations allegedly linked many crimes committed in Asaba and its environs to the activities of unauthorized motor parks and illegal cab operators, many of whom operate at night and are suspected of having links with criminal elements.
It was gathered that unchecked parcels —sometimes containing arms and ammunition, illicit drugs, and other contraband are allegedly transported through these unauthorized motor parks. The illegal operators are also reportedly used to convey criminals to crime scenes, including for kidnapping and human trafficking operations.
The Command, through its Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, had earlier issued a press statement urging Deltans to cooperate with the Police during the enforcement exercise. He also called on transport operators and motorists to comply with established regulations by utilizing only approved motor parks and garages.
According to Edafe, "The decisive enforcement exercise against unauthorized parks and garages operating within the Asaba metropolis began on Monday, July 20, 2026, targeting illegal parks and garages that have contributed to traffic congestion, insecurity, and disorderly conduct across the city, while also serving as breeding grounds for criminal activities through the misuse of waybills."
The Police Public Relations Officer further disclosed that the clampdown would be extended to Oshimili North Local Government Area due to its proximity to and shared boundary with Oshimili South, in order to achieve a common security objective.
Meanwhile, security stakeholders in the state capital have commended the Chairman of Oshimili South Local Government Council, Hon. Ezenyili Kelvin Obi, Ph.D., for his proactive decision to collaborate with the Police and other security agencies in establishing the Oshimili South Security Task-Force.
They noted that the initiative is already producing positive results in addressing and curbing security challenges within Asaba and its surrounding communities.
They further urged the Council Chairman to remain steadfast in refusing to register transport operators with questionable intentions, maintaining that such measures would help prevent criminal elements from exploiting unauthorized motor parks and transport services.
