The United Kingdom has declined the Federal Government of Nigeria’s request to have former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, transferred back home to complete his prison sentence.
Ekweremadu is currently serving a jail term in the UK after being convicted in 2023 for organ trafficking. He was sentenced to nine years and eight months for conspiring to exploit a young man by illegally procuring his kidney for transplant.
The request, reportedly made under international prisoner-transfer agreements, was turned down by British authorities, effectively keeping the former lawmaker in a UK correctional facility until the completion of his sentence.
