OSUBI UNITY CUP: Sports Commission Chairman, Onoriode, Calls on Parents to Embrace Sports and Education

The Delta State Sports Commission Chairman, Mr. Onoriode Oborevwori has called on parents to allow their children to participate in sports activities while emphasizing the importance of engaging kids from a young age. 

Mr. Onoriode made this call during the just concluded Osubi Unity Cup 2024 Football Competition grand finale, organized by the Governor's son, Sheriff Oborevwovri Junior, which was held at the Osubi Community Secondary School field and had the two finalists- Udumurhie and Team Elite- lock horns in the battle for the grand prize of 5 Million naira, which Udumurhie won by 7 to 6 goals in a penalty shootout. 

In an interview with newsmen, the Sports Commission Chairman, flank by the Director General of the Sports Commission, Mr. Festus Ohwojero, stated that involvement in sports not only promotes physical fitness but also helps in the overall development of children, teaching them teamwork, discipline, and resilience.

He highlighted that, " early participation in sports can lead to the discovery of talent and potential pathways to professional careers in athletics. 

"I therefore encourage parents to support local sports program initiatives and education, as these opportunities can significantly impact their children's futures, by allowing their kids to be involved in sports."

"Parents can help cultivate a generation of skilled athletes ready to represent their communities, the State and the Nation."

The Sports  Commission Chairman assured Deltans that through the M.O.R.E. Agenda of His Excellency Rt Hon Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, Governor of Delta State, efforts will continue to be made towards improving sports facilities in the the 25 Local Government Areas, especially giving the Warri township stadium a befitting facelift, as better facilities can help nurture talent and promote holistic development in Sports.
