A yet to be identified young man in his twenties has allegedly murdered his father in Rumuagholu Community, Obio/Akpor Council, Rivers State, for failing to give him money to buy hard drugs.
Egi News reports that "The suspect and the deceased, a pastor, had a disagreement in the early hours of Friday, and when the fight heated up, the suspect used a mortar pestle to hit his father, killing him."
According to a neighbour who described the heinous occurrence, they heard the suspect and his father argue but later learned that the youngster had hit his father with a mortar pestle.
According to the source, once detained, the youngster said that his father refused to give him money to acquire hard drugs, which sparked an altercation in which he fiercely assaulted his father with the weapon.
The youngster, however, has been handed over to officers from the Rumuokoro Divisional Police Station.
The Rivers State Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the occurrence, saying the guy killed the deceased with a pistol, adding that the suspect has been apprehended and an investigation is underway.
