Anambra Police Arrest Gunman at Popular Hotel, recover pistol

Surveillance Operatives of Anambra Police Command has promptly secured the arrest of a lone gunman at a popular hotel (name withheld) in Awka, the capital city of Anambra.

According to a press release signed by the Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ikenga Tochukwu, on 23rd July,  2023, "Operatives who observed the man prowling around the premises on 20th July, 2023 accosted him and conducted a search on his person. One English-made pistol and three rounds of live ammunition were recovered from him."

He further disclosed that the suspect, a male, gave his name as Akuchieani Echezona, and claimed to be resident of Ifite Awka, was disarmed, arrested and taken into custody.

DSP Ikenga also hinted that "the Commissioner of Police, CP Aderemi Adeoye, has ordered State CID Awka to take over the case and investigate source of the weapon as well as the gunman's intention for going armed to the hotel," 

"The suspect is to be arraigned in court at conclusion of investigation."
