The Delta State Executives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has just been dissolved.

The Delta State chapter which was led by Ambassador Oke Idawene after being dissolved, has been replaced with a caretaker committee to run the affairs of the party in the state.

This was contained in a letter signed and issued by its National Secretary, Dr. Olu Agunloye, on Tuesday May 2nd 2023, in Abuja.

Dr. Agunloye, said the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party dissolved the Delta exco following recent developments in the chapter.

He explained that the decision was taken by the "NWC in consonance with the 2022 Constitution of the party".

The spokesperson also said the party approved the appointment of Mrs. Esther Ikule, as the chairman of the caretaker committee.

The letter announcing the dissolution occurred same day that the party suspended some members of the Delta State chapter including Peter Isioma Okaegwu, the Vice Chairman, Delta North Senatorial District of the State.

According to the letter, "The attention of the National Working Committee (NWC), has been drawn to the protracted within the Delta State Chapter, the inability of the erstwhile State Chairman, Mr. Oke Idawene, to get this under control and, worse more, the unworthy roles being played by members of the State Executive Committee in this matter.

"Consequently, the NWC, in consonance with the 2022 Constitution of the party, has approved the dissolution of the Delta State Executive Committee with immediate effect, and has also approved the constitution of the Delta State Caretaker Committee and the appointment of Mrs. Esther Ikule, as the Acting State Chairman if the State chapter".

It further stated that, "the tenure of the Committee shall be 90 (ninety) days from the date of this letter or as the NWC may determine. The chairman and Committee members are expected to familiarize themselves with the Party's Constitution and policies of the Social Democratic Party", it added.
